Frozen - 'The cold never bothered me anyway'

Description

I have to say that Disney broke my expectations yet again with 'Frozen'. 'Let it Go' alone was worth the price of admission. It's the ultimate (Disney) song of self liberation and exhibition of magical powers. The story, while not faithful to the original tale (The Snow Queen was a villain), is about the relationship between two sisters. Which is easier to relate to in these contemporary times. The visuals are gorgeous with lively animation and painstakingly done special effects. It's shot in cinemascope (where the aspect ratio expands significantly vertically and horizontially), which Disney hasn't visited since Black Cauldron (1985), and Sleeping Beauty (1959) before that. So you get to see even more of the already stunning visuals. It's definitely worth seeing.

Though one quibble I have for it is that it tries a bit too hard to be different. Anna and Kristoff being a pair of slobs for one thing. The chocolate faces, bed hair, spitting on sleighs, and of course, the nose picking. In some ways it may be more realistic, but considering them being physically attractive, there's that dissonance (Though one can argue that even beauties can be pigs). There's a lot more nitpicks I have to give actually, but that wouldn't be fair so I'll refrain from saying them.

Anyway, there are some hand drawn animation purists, including myself, who'd rather see an hand drawn film than a CG one. But Frozen is a good film in it's own right, whether it's hand drawn or not. I embrace the film for what it is without letting my 'nostalgia goggles' get in the way from enjoying the movie. But then, there's the 'what if' question. What if Frozen was hand drawn instead of CG. So I gave it my best shot. So this is what I have.

Note: The background is from the movie, not done by me.

This is all just to satisfy your curiosity. It may not be perfect, but I'm sure it'll give a general idea. Do leave a comment if you have anything to say. Enjoy.
